Cher showed the world it’s still a woman’s world during her opening performance at Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2024. At 78 years old, this legendary icon opened the show with “Strong Enough,” wearing an eye-catching black cargo suit with glittery corseted top and sparkly high-heels with large silver wings-like crowns adorning her look.
Lingerie giant L’Oreal hosted their live runway show for the first time since 2019, when it was canceled amid declining ratings and criticism over the lack of diversity among their model cast. Last year, they attempted to revamp it using a pre-taped special, but that also flopped.
Models including Gigi Hadid, Adriana Lima, Paloma Elsesser, Imaan Hammam, Grace Elizabeth Taylor Hill Mayowa Nicholas Devyn Garcia, Barbara Palvin Sprouse, Jasmine Tookes Prinsloo made their comebacks during Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show this month – including Bella Hadid who returned after taking two-year hiatus to focus on both mental and physical wellbeing.
Kate Moss made an unforgettable comeback to the runway this week as well, sporting an androgynous outfit in oxblood with the sheer, skintight dress and slit cut up to there. Bridgerton actress Phoebe Dynevor stole the show wearing an elegant tuxedo dress featuring lacy boyshorts and nipple pasties beneath. Ivy Getty (an actor/ musician/ VS ambassador and actor) and Lily Aldrin were spotted during this event.
Tyla
Tyla, an emerging South African singer-songwriter, made her Victoria’s Secret debut this year wearing an elegant pink outfit sporting their iconic wings. Tyla is well known for fusing pop and R&B music with African elements to form her unique sound; Victoria’s Secret was drawn to her “dynamic personality and innovative approach to music.”
The singer performed a medley of her hits, including ‘Water,’ PUSH 2 START, and her new single ‘Moonlit Floor’ as angels danced around her. Additionally, she made an impactful first impression on the pre-show carpet in a bright pink dress featuring a torso-spanning cutout, beaded details, a messy updo, and plenty of jewelry to complete her look.
This year saw Gigi Hadid return after an absence, alongside Barbara Palvin, Adriana Lima, and Jasmine Tookes gracing the runway for VS Lingerie’s iconic Fashion Show. Returning VS Originals such as Barbara Palvin and Adriana Lima joined this year’s lineup. Also noteworthy was an all-female musical lineup featuring Cher, Tyla, and Lisa from Blackpink taking to the stage. Lisa from Blackpink was one of the show’s most exciting additions, expected to significantly expand its profile in Asia, where she has amassed an enormous fan base. Speaking English and Thai fluently, Lisa delighted the crowd while performing hits such as “Believe” and “Moonlit Floor.” Even before taking to the stage, she made headlines with her impeccable beauty.
Zaldy
Zaldy is best known as a costume designer for high-profile concert tours such as Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball Tour and Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale Tour, plus designing costumes for RuPaul’s Drag Race (five Emmy nominations and three wins!). His designs have also earned him multiple Emmy nominations.
He worked closely with Victoria’s Secret to create iconic lingerie outfits for their models, complete with iconic wings. He also contributed his expertise in designing sets made of recycled materials.
As an homage to its past, Victoria’s Secret brought back Tyra Banks for her return after 20 years away. She joined current Angels such as Gigi Hadid, Paloma Elsesser, and Jasmine Tookes while rounding out its cast with women that reflect an array of age, sex, and body types that weren’t visible a decade ago in its lineup.
